Pageant Positvity: International Woman's Day

International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Coming from my own personal view, I've been raised by strong females and my daughter will also be raised by a strong female. I work in a profession that is mainly male dominated and still try and break stereotypes every day. I am a female, yet I can lift my weight, I don't need help carrying those bags and I sure don't need you to build anything as I can do that with my own two hands. We are constantly inspired by all the woman surrounding us, especially in pageantry.

Yes, in pageantry you are dressing up in heels and long gowns, you may chose to style your hair, put on some make up and get your nails done whilst we are pampering ourselves. But behind the scenes we are empowering young woman everywhere, we are helping our communities, enlightening others on charity challenges and struggles, hosting our own charity events or challenges like climbing mountains and abseiling down huge buildings, all in the name of pageantry. In pageantry there is a strong bond of sisterhood, we build the foundations so that future generations can follow our lead and continue our work.

Car heaters, fire escapes, dishwashers, circular saws, chocolate chip cookies and rectangular bottomed paper bags were all invented by women.

Only 48 women have been awarded Nobel Prizes compared with 822 men
.
Women perform 66% of the world’s work and produce 50% of the food. They earn just 10% of incomes and own 1% of the property globally.

Men are promoted based on their potential, while women are promoted based on past accomplishments.

Women in poor countries do more unpaid work, work longer hours in the informal economy and face degrading working conditions.

In the UK, the 13.9% pay gap meant that in 2016, women effectively worked for free from 10 November until the end of the year.

International Woman's Day is a day to celebrate being female, through all the struggles we have faced and to encourage more females to push the boundaries and break that glass ceiling. From more equal pay, recognising females in lead professions, creating equality for both sexes so we are on the same page rather than against each other. To all my sister queens out there, keep on representing, keep on fighting the battles and keep on being amazing rolemodels for all those future queens out there watching!

Lots of love
Hannah
